Goals from Oliver Giroud and Marcos Alonso was enough for Chelsea to claim a 2-1 victory over Tottenham. Coming into this match, the blues were without a win in their last four PL games. And Giroud inspired the Blues to victory as he scored his first club goal since August.

Spurs were lucky not to finish the match with 10 players after a poor challenge from Giovanni Lo Celso on Azpilicueta.

Tottenham started the match brightly and forced a save from Willy Caballero after 10 minutes. Chelsea also threatened to score as Hugo Lloris saved a near post shot from Mason Mount.

But Giroud broke the deadlock in the 15th-minute as the Frenchman scored from a Ross Barkley rebound after Giroud’s initial effort was saved.

Chelsea scored early in the second half to double their lead. Alonso  thundered a low drive past Lloris after an impressive team move.

Tammy Abraham made an appearance from the bench, almost scored but was bravely denied by Lloris. Alonso then rattled the woodwork with a wonderful freekick.

Rudiger scored an own goal as he deflected an Erik Lamela cross past Caballero. But Chelsea held on and claimed all three points.

The win gives Chelsea a much-needed advantage in the top four race as they now extend their lead over Mourinho’s team to four points.
